Emotional Abuse: Is It Really Happening to Me?

Emotional Abuse: Is It Really Happening to Me?

Coach Gaelyn

Emotional Abuse: Is It Really Happening To Me?

Recommended Four 50-Minute Sessions with Coach Gaelyn

Individual Sessions $115 (Packages Available)

Abuse is a strong word—and because of that reality, most of us find it difficult to identify ourselves as survivors of abuse. For example, we recognize physical abuse (violence) as we see it portrayed on TV. However, we often fail to recognize more subtle forms of relational, emotional, financial, sexual and spiritual abuse—even if happens within our own romantic and family relationships.

Here at BTR, we understand that betrayal trauma is NOT limited to our loved ones’ addiction to sex and porn. Because of this understanding, we seek to support women who are healing from a broad spectrum of emotional and relational abuse dynamics.

During your first session, Coach Gaelyn will invite you to share your story, safely and openly. She’ll introduce techniques that are critical to grounding yourself through this period of abuse awareness work, and she’ll recommend specific readings from Lundy Bancroft and Dr. Omar Minwalla, each designed to increase your understanding of emotional abuse within your relationship. Common themes that clients explore include:

  • The Nature (and Mythology) of Abusive Thinking
  • Ten Types of Abusive Men: Do You Know Them When You See Them?
  • Abuse, Addiction and Male Sexuality: The Troubling Trifecta
  • Parenting (also Co-Parenting & Parallel Parenting) with an Abusive Partner
  • Living with an Abusive Man: How to Protect Yourself if You Stay
  • Separating from an Abusive Man: How to Protect Yourself if You Leave
  • Creating an Abuse-Free World: Let it Begin with Me
  • Thirteen Dimensions of Sex Addiction Induced Trauma

During your second and third sessions, Coach Gaelyn will invite you to process your response to these readings, dedicating time to explore highlights that resonate, validate, concern or confuse you. She’ll help you to normalize the emotions that accompany this process and support you through “connecting the dots” within emotionally abusive relationships.

During your fourth session, Coach Gaelyn will help you to summarize and solidify what you’ve learned, deepening the ways you’ve started to recognize and identify emotional abuse within your life and relationships. She’ll recommend focal points for further growth and coaching on this topic, including insights to explore within our next series of topic sessions, How Do I Heal From Emotional Abuse?

Detecting & Confronting Gaslighting

Recommended Six 50-Minute Sessions with Coach Sarah

Individual Sessions $115 (Packages Available)

Gaslighting can be a difficult thing to truly recognize – it’s complex and nuanced, with stages, different types of gaslighters, methods of gaslighting, traps to be aware of, and more.

Though often done subconsciously, gaslighting aims to control the other person, cover up addictive behaviors, or as a shame response. Regardless of the reason, the gaslighter manipulates and lies to you which ultimately makes you feel crazy.

Working with Coach Sarah will be a SAFE place for you to learn:

  • An understanding of what gaslighting is; the difference between a lie, “regular” manipulation, and gaslighting.
  • An ability to recognize the different types of gaslighters, the tactics they use, the dimensions it reaches, the stages of gaslighting, and it’s effects.
  • An awareness of the traps and risks/vulnerabilities you may have toward being lied to / manipulated.
  • The ability to recognize when gaslighting in happening around you.
  • Knowledge of tools you can use to “opt-out” when you recognize gaslighting.
  • An ability to engage the tools to empower you to opt out of gaslighting episodes.

In each session, you’ll experience a safe place to voice your questions and receive feedback, validation, and encouragement – plus have notes/homework to deepen your understanding or possibly reveal more questions during the week.

“I was desperate for help and searched the internet for answers. I came across Coach Sarah’s info on gaslighting. So this is what I’d been experiencing in my marriage for 26 years, and there’s a name for it?! It was literally a mind blowing revelation for me. That led me to the BTR website where I went on a podcast binge and listened to everything I could get my hands on. The “fog” of gaslighting began to lift and with the help of one of the coaches, I gained the courage to set some significant and appropriate boundaries.  I registered for Coach Sarah’s sessions on gaslighting. Honestly, I thought I had a pretty good handle on the subject and didn’t expect to learn much more. Was I ever wrong. What I thought I knew about gaslighting was only a drop in the bucket. Her sessions were very informative and practical with examples, role playing, and opportunities to apply what we were learning to our real life situations in a safe situation with feedback and encouragement. If you have been betrayed, chances are gaslighting is or has been a significant part of your story as well. I would encourage you to do the gaslighting sessions and begin to leave the “fog” behind. Knowledge is power.”

I worked the boundaries group with with Coach Sarah. This course specifically addresses setting boundaries, and its principles are applicable in all areas of our lives. An intimate group of amazing women represented different stages of discovery and grief cycles. We came from various backgrounds and bonded together to find solutions to the challenges women face after the initial shock — when we are unable to make sense of reality. I was able to sort out truth from fiction and find coping tools. Coach Sarah is instinctual and intuitive. This isn’t a cookie-cutter group with an unmovable agenda – there isn’t one way to approach the challenge of boundaries. Treat yourself to this healing experience. Move past the “crazy” and stand in your own truth in sisterhood.

I signed up Setting & Holding Healthy Boundaries with Coach Sarah. Words truly can’t express how this experience helped in my life! I will miss my Tuesday evening meetings with Coach Sarah & the brave women that also enrolled in this course. Each story & experience shared from the others touched my life in so many ways! The encouragement, education, & knowledge received from Coach Sarah & our group will forever be a part of my life! I wish I would have found BTR sooner, but know it simply was in God’s timing to bring this organization into my life! I look forward to continuing support calls & enrolling in future groups! Thank you BTR (Anne) & Coach Sarah for everything!

I was referred to Coach Sarah (and BTR) by my personal counselor. I didn’t know what to expect, but from the first day, I could feel the support of other women and a great experience of Sarah. Women in our group were experiencing similar challenges, so it was easy to share with them and support them. It was a great source of healing for me. I highly recommend any BTR support group that Coach Sarah leads. It helped me to feel much better during difficult times.”
